Philanthropy Grants

Do you believe that UBC and UBC students should support both the school and greater community? Do you want to support a local NGO but don’t quite know where to start?

Submit a nomination to the AUS Philanthropy Grant!

Advocacy and goodwill are key commitments of the AUS to ensure that we foster an inclusive, supportive, and public-spirited community and beyond. The AUS is proud to lead the monthly Philanthropy Grant initiative to help our wider community by supporting a locally based (Lower Mainland or BC) NGO that is nominated by UBC Arts undergraduate students. Individual students can nominate an NGO through our Airtable Philanthropy submission form for a chance to have a $400 donation provided to the NGO of their choice! The best part about this initiative is that it is driven by YOU. The AUS needs your nominations because without you, this grant would not be possible. Be sure to follow AUS on Facebook and Instagram to see updates and a link to the submission form.

The Philanthropy Grant operates on a monthly basis, with a general format looking like the following:

  • First day of the month: New nomination period begins.
  • End of second week of the month: Nomination period closes, Philanthropy committee begins to review nominations to ensure they are CRA-certified and registered charities.
  • Third week of the month: Philanthropy committee creates a presentation to show this month’s nominations for the AUS Council
  • Fourth week of the month: Philanthropy Committee presents to the AUS Council, AUS Council votes on NGO, and selected NGO donation of $400 is processed and sent.

FAQ

Can I submit a charity in another country? How about another province?
  • A key requirement of NGO submissions is that we require the organization to be certified by the Canadian Revenue Agency as a registered organization. This means they must operate within Canada. Regarding out of province organizations, we prefer that we keep donations to a local (Lower Mainland or BC-wide) level.
If my NGO is selected, do I receive anything?
  • If your nominated NGO is selected and voted on by the AUS Council to receive a $400 donation, you will receive a $25 gift card!
Who can I contact if I have any questions about this initiative?
